A champion in TNA wants something specific from AJ Styles.

TNA Impact debuts on AMC this Thursday, January 15th. It has been announced that future WWE and TNA Hall of Famer AJ Styles will be on the show, though his role has not yet been revealed.

At the TNA Slammiversary PLE in July 2025, AJ Styles returned to TNA for the first time in over a decade to congratulate Leon Slater on becoming the X-Division Champion. While Styles teased a match, no match was officially made.

When the 21-year-old X-Division Champion Leon Slater was asked by PWInsider about what he wants Styles to do on TNA’s AMC debut, Slater made it clear he wants Styles to challenge him to a match.

“I am most definitely hoping it’s a challenge to me. You know what I’m saying? I feel like that’s a match that is definitely going to happen at some point. Of course, I’m not on the inner workings of everything, but I feel like I have quite a gift for manifesting.

Everything I see in my dreams and picture in my head seems to come to reality. That’s the match I’ve been picturing for years and years, especially with the position I’m in right now—youngest X Division Champion of all time—and he’s the first X Division Champion of all time.

AJ has said he’s wrapping it up in 2026, so I feel like that singles match is something that needs to happen, and I think it needs to happen for the X Division Title in a TNA ring.”

AJ Styles Suffers Controversial Loss On WWE Raw

As mentioned by Slater above, the 48-year-old AJ Styles confirmed that he was going to retire as a full-time wrestler in 2026. Before he calls it a career at some future event, he wants to continue building on the legacy he has as a former 2-time WWE Champion and former 5-time World Champion in TNA.

This past Monday, on the January 12th edition of WWE Raw, AJ Styles faced Gunther in the main event. The two veterans had a great match, but it had a controversial ending.

While Styles had Gunther trapped in a Calf Crusher, the powerful Austrian tapped out by tapping Styles on his side, which was opposite of where the referee was. Styles celebrated as if he won the match, but the referee never saw it. Gunther ended up hitting a Powerbomb and winning.

After the match, the replay showed Gunther tapping out, but the decision was final. Styles will likely be looking for a rematch soon.
