“They Just Forgot About Her” – AEW Star’s Nearly 2-Year Absence Explained?
An AEW original remains under contract with the company, but has been away from television for a long time.
Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., is a former AEW Women’s World Champion who literally signed with the company when it launched in January 2019. Over the years, Baker became one of the top women in the company.
While there were injuries along the way, Baker has also been away from television since November 2024. Why has she been away from television for nearly two years? Nobody really knows, but Baker remains under contract.
During the AEW Revolution PPV in March, Baker made it clear that her absence isn’t because of her as she wrote: “Not up to me.”
Baker was also interviewed earlier in the year and said she loved that fans are still talking about her.
“I just love that the fans are still talking about me. Keep the chatter up because I love it. Stay tuned.”
In February 2026, which was three months ago, AEW Owner, GM, and Head of Creative Tony Khan gave this generic comment when asked about Baker.
“I really like Britt a lot. There’s so many exciting things happening in the women’s division… and Britt’s somebody I really like and respect a lot.
Britt’s still somebody very highly regarded and respected here in AEW. So I would expect to see Britt back in AEW. I just don’t want to say when.”
That was three months ago, and there’s been no sign of Baker since then.
Regarding Baker’s contract status, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful recently stated that Baker signed a five-year extension in 2021, which means the deal could be up later this year.
“She signed a five-year contract in 2021 that would carry her into the fall of this year. Every time I talk about this, it gets aggregated as fact, which is very stupid. So don’t aggregate this. But I am not personally sure if there is any injury time that can be added. She’s missed time with injury, so it’s possible, and I do think that AEW would extend it if they could.
I haven’t heard of anything regarding her or that, or just much of anything, and I think that’s a bummer, man. Like, listen, she had a bad match with Mercedes, she did her spot with Serena and it just wasn’t— it didn’t come off well. But, like, to me, having someone like Britt Baker, who has been super over, wrestle five times in two and a half years is a giant waste of money.”
A New Theory On Britt Baker’s AEW Absence
While speaking on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, former WCW wrestler Disco Inferno said that AEW refuses to use Baker, yet they continue to pay her to sit at home.
“Britt Baker wouldn’t make a dent in that company right now.
Maybe they’re just like…maybe because every time they’ve had her on, she sucked up all the interview time for the girls that they just kept her off TV for a while to get the other girls some mic work…and they just forgot about her…and haven’t brought her back. That’s what it seems like to me. I don’t know.”
That’s more of a theory rather than a report or anything like that, but it’s still an interesting point because Baker used to get a lot of TV time and got to talk more than other women. Those days are long gone now.
