The Undertaker Breaks Silence After Historic Title Match On WWE SmackDown
WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker, sent a message after a historic title match took place on SmackDown this week.
The Undertaker is a name that needs no introduction in the realm of professional wrestling. The Phenom had a legendary career that spanned over 30 years and is one of the beloved and respected legends today. Since his in-ring retirement, Taker has been working behind the scenes with the WWE as well.
It was announced last year that the WWE had bought the Mexican promotion, Lucha Libre AAA. It was also revealed a few months back that The Undertaker (aka Mark Calaway) is one of the biggest creative minds behind the booking of AAA. In an interview earlier this year, Taker opened up on his new role and the legacy of Lucha Libre:
Helping out with creative and doing some stuff with AAA, I’m trying to, my vision is to almost take a step back to step forward. I’m really high on the physicality and the actual in-ring stuff, and things making sense, which is kinda difficult from where I’ve come from and then working with AAA, the Lucha Libre legacy is incredible, with the mask and there’s so many; this guy who has a son, who has a son. So all these legacies and all this culture is in there.”
Undertaker also said that his goal is not to make AAA similar to WWE RAW or SmackDown:
So what we’re trying to do is honor that, but give more production value to the product, and help storytell a little better, I think that’s the biggest thing. That’s the key is, I’m not trying to make AAA, Lucha Libre, I’m not trying to make it Raw or SmackDown, WWE. I’m taking elements of that, adding it to what they already do, and trying to make a product that everyone will want to see.”
The Undertaker reacted to a historic match on WWE SmackDown
This week on SmackDown, the AAA Cruiserweight Championship was defended for the first time on WWE TV. At the end of a highly athletic encounter, Rey Fenix successfully retained his title with his win over Axiom.
As the creative booker of Lucha Libre AAA, The Undertaker congratulated Rey Fenix on retaining the Cruiserweight title and proudly representing AAA on WWE TV:
Big congrats to @ReyFenixMxon successfully defending the #AAACruiserweightChampionship and proudly representing @luchalibreaaa.”
