Cody Rhodes is arguably the most popular WWE star today, but is he?

The American Nightmare booked his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania for the fourth consecutive year after defeating Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship a few weeks ago on SmackDown.

The second-generation superstar will now square off against his mentor, Randy Orton, at the Show of Shows. Ahead of their clash, The Viper shockingly turned heel and ambushed Rhodes on SmackDown two weeks ago.

Wrestling Veteran Thinks WWE Should Have Turned Cody Rhodes Heel

On a recent episode of the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, wrestling veteran Disco Inferno discussed Randy Orton’s heel turn on Cody Rhodes. He claimed Triple H should have turned The American Nightmare instead.

While debating the issue with his co-host, AAA Hall of Famer Konnan, Inferno shockingly suggested that Rhodes’ popularity among WWE fans is fake.

Konnan: Let me just say one thing. I was not interested at all in Orton vs. Cody. I am now. I thought that was a great, great, great turn. That’s what it needed. And now I’m interested.

Inferno: I’m interested too, but I still, like I said, the decision should have been Cody turning in my opinion.

Konnan: You don’t need yet. He’s still very over.

Inferno: I don’t think he is. That’s the thing. That’s fake. He’s not very over. [2:59 onwards]
