Seth Rollins Reveals Original WrestleMania Plans For The Shield’s Break-Up
Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose created magic with The Shield in WWE.
The faction was extremely popular, and the global juggernaut focused on long-term story building with the faction.
The Visionary betraying The Shield created a feud between Rollins and Reigns, and the storyline continued into WrestleMania 40 and WrestleMania 41.
Seth Rollins reveals when The Shield was supposed to break up
On June 2nd, 2024, The Visionary hit The Big Dog with a steel chair shot to the back. This marked the ending of The Shield as Seth Rollins aligned with Triple H and the Evolution. However, this wasn’t the original plan.
On The Sal Licata Show, the former World Heavyweight Champion revealed that The Shield was supposed to break up at WrestleMania 30 , where Reigns would battle Ambrose with Rollins as the special referee.
Yes, it was a thought, so a little bit of inside baseball. The initial breakup of The Shield was meant to be at WrestleMania 30. Roman Reigns was going to wrestle Dean Ambrose with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee. I wasn’t even going to be included in the match. Luckily, that idea got jettisoned. We ended up having a pretty good next year run. We got a pretty good six-man tag team match with Evolution in there, which was really good, you got the iconic heel turn, and then we ended doing the Triple Threat randomly on Battleground Pay-Per-View.
The Shield’s breakup was an iconic moment in WWE’s history. Fans have often asked about whether the faction members will ever revive it, but the answer has been no.
