Ronda Rousey Responds To Holly Holms’ Rematch Challenge: “I Would Clean Her Clock, But…”
Ronda Rousey responded to the rematch callout by Holly Holm.
Back in 2015, Ronda Rousey lost her UFC Bantamweight Championship to Holly Holm, which was shocking because Ronda’s winning streak ended that night. Rousey recently made her MMA return with a win over Gina Carano as well.
Following her return, Ronda Rousey got a message from Holly Holm, as Holly said she is always ready for a rematch against Ronda.
Ronda Rousey on a potential rematch with Holly Holm
Speaking on the Up & Adams Show, Ronda Rousey responded to Holly Holm about a potential rematch, stating that she has retired now but could beat Holly in her current condition:
I said I’m retired, A, and B, I think that I am a completely different fighter now and I would clean her clock and definitely now that I got that new medication. I’ve took it before — I was diagnosed with cortical spreading depression, which was what was happening in my last fights and why I basically was like, ‘I need to stop’”
Because I thought that my concussions were catching up to me and this was the first fight where I was able to take it, and when I spiked my head into the mat, that’s exactly the kind of thing that would have set me off before and I would have lost big chunks of my vision, and it didn’t come back at all”
Rousey further stated that she would’ve wanted redemption after her loss to Holly Holm 10 years ago, but she is a different person now:
It ended up working perfectly in a live situation and I was just talking about — yesterday — how I feel like an alchemist where the person goes through everything that they went through and they return a changed person at the end, and I feel like, you know, how many years ago? 10 years ago or whatever the hell it would be, this would be exactly what I would have wanted, more than anything…”
A chance at coming back and redemption and beating her and feasibly have Amanda Serrano or something after that and have bigger and bigger money fights and all of this fame and all of this money, and right now, it’s completely within my grasp. I’m better than I’ve ever been. I have better coaching than I’ve ever had. I finally don’t have these neurological issues that I had before. But now that I have it all set in front of me, I’ve changed, and the things that I want have changed…”
Ronda concluded that her kids are the most important in her life and reiterated that she would clean Holly Holm’s clock today, but it doesn’t haunt her anymore:
Suddenly, these aren’t the most important things in the world to me anymore. It’s these kids, and spending time with them, and I think that’s the journey that I had to go through is I had to get to this point where you could have all of those things that you wanted 10 years ago but you have grown, and you’re a different person now and you don’t want those things anymore, and so, yeah, I think I definitely have the ability and the opportunity to be able to f*cking clean her clock and rewrite all of that. But, it’s no longer important to me anymore. It doesn’t haunt me.” [H/T Fightful]
Only time will tell if Ronda Rousey will ever change her mind.
