Ronda Rousey Could Be Headed To WWE NXT

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is one of the names discussed as main roster presence on WWE NXT continues to increase.

In recent months, cross-pollination between WWE’s main roster and NXT has become increasingly common. Not only does it serve as a chance for main roster performers to participate in fresh stories, it also helps NXT talent work with stars who have television experience under their belts.

On the latest episode of NXT, Seth Rollins defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Bron Breakker in the main event, answering a challenge that Breakker issued weeks prior. In addition, Dana Brooke faced off against Cora Jade on the episode, and Baron Corbin is set to face Carmelo Hayes for the NXT Championship on June 28th. Mustafa Ali and Los Lotharios have also made their presence known as of late.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Ronda Rousey is one of the names being discussed for a potential NXT crossover, potentially along with her tag team partner Shayna Baszler.

“There are plans for more major stars to work NXT like [Seth] Rollins did this week. One name that was at least talked about was Rousey, or perhaps even having Rousey & [Shayna] Baszler defend the women’s tag titles there. But the goal is to use the main roster stars to increase the ratings, and the Rollins experiment was a huge success, so when something works in wrestling the idea is that you usually follow up on it.”

Rousey and Baszler are currently set to face NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre in a title unification match on the June 23rd episode of SmackDown.
