Rey Mysterio To Face Dominik Mysterio In Major Title Clash

Rey Mysterio is back in WWE after being sidelined for months due to an injury.

Just 24 hours before WrestleMania 41, Mysterio sustained an injury, which led to his match against El Grande Americano at The Grandest Stage of Them All being scrapped.

It was later revealed that he had suffered a torn groin and a ruptured eardrum during the six-man tag team match on SmackDown.

Amid speculations of his return, he finally appeared on the November 3 taping of RAW to confront his son, Dominik Mysterio.

The father-son duo exchanged words, with Rey Mysterio contradicting his son’s claim about being the best luchador in history. Their segment ended with Rey hitting a 619 on Dominik.

According to Eduardo Bates, a veteran lucha libre journalist, a match has been finalized between the two Mysterios at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event on December 20.

Their match will be for the AAA Mega Championship, held currently by Dominik Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio was announced for Guerra de Titanes. I can tell you he is expected to face Dominik there for the AAA Mega Championship.

During the discussion, Bates speculated about Rey winning the championship for the first time in his illustrious career.

I don’t know if Rey will take the Mega Championship at Guerra de Titanes; that would be very interesting and very beautiful. At one point Dominik told Rey Mysterio, ‘You’ve never won the Mega Championship,’ so it’s possible Rey takes it from him and the story develops from there. [H/T: Ringside News]

Rey Mysterio Had Hinted At A Rematch With His Son

During his time away, Rey Mysterio continued to make media appearances.

Speaking on RAW Recap in September, the former world champion discussed potentially facing Dominik Mysterio, who at that time was not the AAA Mega Champion.

I’ve kind of let things just be bygones be bygones, you know? Let him do his thing, let me do my thing. But if there comes a time, if he does become Mega Champion and he gets in my face or he just happens to light that spark up once again, of course, there is a huge opportunity for that.

It is safe to say that that’s exactly how the events transpired, setting up another match between the father and the son.
