Finn Balor was betrayed by and ousted from The Judgement Day faction last week on Raw, and some details have now emerged as to why that happened.

Tensions between Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio were subtly growing over the past few weeks on Raw, and they eventually reached a boiling point when Balor stopped factionmate JD McDonagh from helping Dominik Mysterio illegally during Mysterio’s Intercontinental Title match against Penta.

The confusion led Dirty Dom to lose the title to Penta, and a furious Mysterio confronted Balor with all the Judgement Day members in the ring this past Monday. After a fake apology and harsh statement from Balor ticked off Mysterio, the two got into a fight, which quickly turned into Judgement Day, with Mysterio tearing Balor apart, effectively kicking him out of their faction.

Now, a report has emerged from the Wrestling Observer that gives some explanation for what went down on Raw.

Finn Balor Was Reportedly Set To Face Dominik Mysterio At SummerSlam 2025

According to the Wrestling Observer, Mysterio was to face Balor at last year’s SummerSlam, but the Judgement Day angle was still hot, and they didn’t want to disrupt it then.

It was also noted that Balor was to assume his Demon character to face Dirty Dom. It’s unclear whether that will happen now, but it looks like the two will face each other in some capacity at WrestleMania 42.

A post about this was shared by WrestlePurists on X.

Finn Balor vs Dominik Mysterio was scheduled for SummerSlam last year, but the decision was made that the Judgment Day direction was still hot and not to make that change until later. At that time the plan for SummerSlam was for Balor to do the Demon gimmick. Whether that happens now isn’t known, but that was the plan last year.
