Real Reason Tony Khan Held Off Announcing AEW Signing
AEW has announced a raft of new signings, but one star has actually been signed for months, so what is Tony Khan thinking?
It did not take long after it emerged that The Rascalz were done with TNA for AEW to announce that the group is joining the company imminently. But that is not the only signing Tony Khan has been making.
It’s now emerged that Khan has also snapped up Mascara Dorada, Persephone, and Hechicero on dual contracts with CMLL. But one of those has actually been signed with AEW for quite some time, despite Khan only just announcing it officially. So why the delay?
Tony Khan Makes Big AEW Signings
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why Tony Khan might have only just signed Hechicero despite the Don Callis Family member actually having been signed for several months:
[AEW] also signed Mascara Dorada and Persephone. That’s a dual contract with CMLL. Tony also announced Hechicero was signed, but he’s been signed for a long, long time. I’m not sure why he didn’t announce it before, but maybe the idea is to do a whole bunch of signings to make it look like he’s gotta a lot of guys [coming in].
Khan is perhaps bolstering his roster as he’s about to lose Powerhouse Hobbs to WWE imminently. Hobbs’ deal with AEW is believed to have ended on January 14th, leaving Hobbs to appear for any other company immediately.
