AEW Champion Immediately Joining WWE
WWE could be about to pull off a major coup as a current AEW champion is reportedly jumping ship imminently.
The following article contains spoilers for AEW Collision to air on January 17th.
The AEW Trios Championship is currently held by The Opps’ trio of Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe, and Katsuyori Shibata. But it doesn’t seem that things will stay that way for long.
On January 14th, AEW held its live Dynamite Maximum Carnage show and taped Collision to air on Saturday night as well. Collision will see the AEW Trios Title up for grabs as The Opps defend their gold against former AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page and JetSpeed.
AEW Losing Popular Homegrown Star
Page and JetSpeed won that title from The Opps, and it seems for a very good reason. Fightful Select has reported that Powerhouse Hobbs’ AEW contract expired at midnight on January 14th, and he is now a free agent. AEW is said to have made him a substantial offer to stay, but WWE sources expect Hobbs to join the sports entertainment giant.
Hobbs and AEW are said to have been negotiating for months, but ultimately, the star wanted to test the waters of free agency. Given his contract status, Hobbs could appear on WWE programming as soon as SmackDown on Friday, which airs before fans will see Hobbs lose his AEW title. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
