Breaking: Randy Orton Reportedly Injured Ahead Of WWE WrestleMania 42
Randy Orton’s WWE plans for WrestleMania 42 and beyond could see a shift if what this new report suggests is major.
Randy Orton is scheduled for the main event on night 1 of WrestleMania 42, where he is set to face Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship.
Orton will be gunning for his 15th WWE World Title, and his feud with Rhodes has heavily changed color after the recent inclusion of former WWE commentator and NFL Punter Pat McAfee.
McAfee has aligned with Orton in storyline and has stated that Orton will defeat Rhodes to become champion for the 15th time in his career and “save the business” from the clutches of someone like Rhodes, who McAfee feels is a corporate champion.
McAfee also notably said in his latest promo on SmackDown with Cody Rhodes that if Orton were to lose, the WWE Universe would never see Pat McAfee again. This comment came as an unintentional spoiler to the outcome of the match, as reports have emerged from Wrestling Observer recently that a tag match with Jelly Roll and Cody Rhodes going up against Pat McAfee and Randy Orton is scheduled for the Backlash PLE on May 9th, which many logically added up to conclude that Randy Orton will win and become the new champion at ‘Mania 42.
Dave Meltzer, on the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, gave a surprising update on Randy Orton’s physical condition going into WrestleMania 42 this weekend.
Randy Orton Reportedly “Hurting” Ahead Of WrestleMania 42
Meltzer said he has been told that Orton was physically hurting going into the Showcase of the Immortals.
Although it is unclear how severe Orton’s physical pain is, it may change what could happen in the main event. The possibility of Orton losing to Rhodes is now open if The Viper has to take time off to heal after the event.
Meltzer also pointed to the promo Pat McAfee cut last week and how his statements could have meant that Orton would emerge victorious at WrestleMania 42.
Perhaps most notable in the McAfee promo is that he said that if Randy Orton doesn’t beat Cody Rhodes for the title, that he will never do anything involving WWE again. Obviously that is not happening. In fact, the only result, given that promo, that was almost completely clear is Orton winning.
He then went on to say that the news they have received about Orton’s condition suggests the result could change.
We were told that Orton is hurting so there is a possibility that would change, as it would make no sense for Orton to win if he has to take time off, but McAfee’s statement came across like it’s as close to a lock as possible.
