After the loss, Rhodes went on a brief hiatus, returning at Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXIX on May 24.
They contested in a tag team match at Money in the Bank PLE, Cena teaming with Logan Paul and Rhodes with Jey Uso.
Rhodes then competed in and won the King of the Ring Tournament for the chance to challenge the world champion at SummerSlam.
During their last encounter, John Cena attempted to back out of their match, but was attacked and forced to sign the contract by Cody Rhodes.
