Pat McAfee thinks his new WWE alliance with Randy Orton is going to save the business.

Randy Orton gained a surprising new ally on the April 3rd edition of SmackDown when former WWE announcer and sometimes wrestler Pat McAfee joined Orton in attacking the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, who Orton will face at WrestleMania 42.

While Orton beat up Rhodes with a steel chair, McAfee did a promo about how WWE isn’t as good as it used to be and that it needs people like Randy Orton in a top spot to make things right. Orton would go on to reveal that McAfee was the mystery caller who spoke with him on the phone and offered him career advice.

It was revealed that McAfee as Orton’s ally, was an idea from TKO boss Ari Emanuel, who is a huge fan of McAfee and wanted McAfee to be in a featured role. While Emanuel loves the idea, many WWE fans and viewers hated it and thought it wasn’t necessary in the Orton-Rhodes rivalry.

On his Monday edition of the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN/YouTube, McAfee went into character mode again to address what happened on SmackDown. McAfee mentioned that Orton was on his sports show in the past.

“Number one story coming out of the weekend, you guessed it. Randy Orton saving the business at WrestleMania. You know, it was a fun time on Friday night letting the world know that, yeah, you remember when Randy Orton came on the show at the Combine?

Then you remember shortly after that I say I thought the business passed me by, and then all of a sudden Randy’s on the phone with somebody motivating, dominating everybody. Oh yeah, maybe it was me telling him, hey bud, my daughter is about to turn 3 years old.

I would like her to be a wrestling fan, but I would like wrestling to be what wrestling’s supposed to be, especially at the top of the card. 6’5″, 275 pounds of perfection from the wrestling gods has been sitting here this whole time. And is he on TV all day, every day? Absolutely not. He was actually sent home for about 6 months recently.”

Pat McAfee Teases “Spectacular” WWE Plans With Randy Orton

As he continued, Pat McAfee spoke about what he has planned with Randy Orton, but he didn’t give away too much.

“Just know that we got some things cooking and you’re going to want to be in Las Vegas. It’s going to be spectacular. It’s going to be special.

And future wrestling generation fans will have to look back on the night that was in Las Vegas and say that was the moment that the GOAT saved the entire business. By becoming 15-time world champion.”

McAfee went on to trash the IWC, aka the Internet Wrestling Community.

“I was asking the wrestling fans this weekend, hey, did you thank Randy Orton yet for what he’s going to do at WrestleMania for the future of wrestling? And you know, these IWC dipsh**s, they have no idea. This is for the good of them. They have no idea what they’ve been missing.”

WrestleMania 42 will STREAM LIVE Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT on ESPN in the United States and Netflix everywhere else.
