Pat McAfee Reacts To WWE WrestleMania 42 Attack – “Randy Wanted To Snap My Neck In Half”
Pat McAfee had some thoughts on Randy Orton attacking him at WWE WrestleMania 42.
In the main event of WrestleMania 42 Saturday, Cody Rhodes beat Randy Orton to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship in a match that saw Orton’s ally, Pat McAfee, get attacked numerous times.
McAfee introduced Orton at the start of the match, but it was a rough night for McAfee otherwise. McAfee was attacked by Rhodes and also the singer Jelly Roll, who splashed McAfee through the commentary table.
At the conclusion of the match, referee Charles Robinson was bumped. That led to McAfee walking out to the ringside in a neck brace while fans were likely wondering how McAfee could take over as a referee. After Orton hit Cody with an RKO, McAfee countered the pin, and Cody kicked out.
Following Rhodes’ kickout, a frustrated Orton hit an RKO on McAfee. Since Orton was dealing with McAfee, Rhodes got back up and hit Cross Rhodes on Orton, and the original referee, Charles Robinson, counted the pin to give Rhodes the win as he retained the title.
On the day after WrestleMania Saturday, Pat McAfee’s wife, Samantha, confirmed that Pat was out of the wrestling business since McAfee had said that if Orton lost, then McAfee would leave pro wrestling.
“Randy Wanted To Snap My Neck In Half” – Pat McAfee
While speaking on the April 20th edition of his YouTube/ESPN sports show, Pat McAfee addressed what “The Viper” Orton did to him.
“Randy Orton lost—and in doing so, tried to break my neck after my neck had already been busted by Jelly Roll’s big ass. Cody Rhodes was somehow able to hit the Cross Rhodes on Randy. You know why? Because Randy was distracted—because Randy wanted to snap my neck in half.
I was already in a neck brace, and doctors said you need to keep stability in your neck—and I said I’m going out there in case something happens. Maybe he knew it was me—it felt like he knew.”
As he continued, McAfee recalled how his alliance with Orton started on the road to WrestleMania.
“First phone call after we decided we had to save the business—I told him, ‘Kill everybody.’ I told him to kill everybody—he killed me too. That’s what happens when you dance with the Viper. All I was trying to do was motivate and inspire… and bam—it ends like that.”
There were more comments from McAfee, who spoke about his injuries; in this case, it could be considered a storyline regarding the injuries he suffered.
“C2–C5—we’ve got scans coming back tomorrow morning. I’ve been wearing this brace since I got Jelly Roll’d. I’m hopeful I’ll be healthy. Got cuts and bruises too—hand right here cut, I think that’s because the table exploded. I got some shrapnel. Somehow got a splinter in the crotch.
There was a lot that happened out there, and I just wanted to let everyone know—I’m still okay.” (H/T Ringsidenews)
Pat McAfee also made it clear he was moving on from the wrestling business after being part of WWE in different roles over the last decade.
A life after WWE likely won’t be difficult, since McAfee is a busy guy with a daily sports show on YouTube/ESPN and also works on ESPN’s College Gameday, covering college football in the fall.
