NXT North American Title Match Announced For Great American Bash

The prestigious NXT North American Title will be on the line at WWE’s next Premium Live Event, the Great American Bash.

Wes Lee is the longest reigning NXT North American Champion with a reign that has surpassed 250+ days.

While the NXT North American Championship only has been around for five years, some of NXT’s biggest names ever have held the title. Adam Cole was the first NXT North American Champion while others like Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Keith Lee, Carmelo Hayes and Cameron Grimes have held it too.

For the past couple of months, Wes Lee has been part of a storyline with Tyler Bate and Mustafa Ali, who has been a main roster wrestler for several years. Since Ali is a “free agent” in WWE land right now, he’s been more of a regular in NXT since the WWE Draft two months ago.

The trio of Lee, Bate and Ali have teamed up together to win a six-man tag team match. Lee has also beaten Bate in an NXT North American Title match while Ali did some questionable refereeing.

On last week’s WWE NXT episode on July 4th, Mustafa Ali beat Tyler Bate after Bate was crotched on the top rope and Ali followed up with a 450 Splash off the top rope for the pinfall win. After the match, Ali spoke into the camera saying he wanted a title shot against Lee at the Great American Bash.

Mustafa Ali’s request was granted because WWE officially announced that Wes Lee will defend the NXT North American Title against Ali at the Great American Bash Premium Live Event on Sunday, July 30th.
