Money Not The Only Reason AEW Signed Ex-World Champion
Money wasn’t the only thing behind one AEW star joining Tony Khan’s company.
At Dynamite Maximum Carnage, Kenny Omega joined Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page in the ring as he made his case to become the next AEW World Champion. Omega admitted that he needed to win matches before getting a shot at that title. That brought out the slimy Don Callis, who had the perfect opponent for Omega, his Walking Weapon, Josh Alexander.
And it seems a match with Omega was one of the key reasons that Tony Khan was able to beat WWE to the punch and snap up the former TNA World Champion.
Kenny Omega Match A Key Reason For AEW Signing
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that a match with Kenny Omega was just one of the reasons that Josh Alexander decided to pledge his wrestling future to AEW:
The main reason Alexander came to AEW was because they offered him more money and that was gonna be his decision. But his goal when he came in absolutely was to have a match with Kenny Omega and he’s gonna get that wish. They’ll probably have a hell of a match.
Alexander and Omega will square off on the January 21st edition of Dynamite. This will be Omega’s first singles match since he lost to Kazuchika Okada at All In Texas in July 2025.
