MJF On Possibly Leaving AEW For WWE: “I’d Be Successful”

MJF AEW World Champion

MJF gave his thoughts on both AEW and WWE in a recent interview.

MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) is the AEW World Champion.

Friedman returned in 2025 after a hiatus to win the championship at AEW: World’s End in December. Since then, he has been a dominant force in AEW, successfully defending his title against Bandido in January this year.

In a recent appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Friedman said he would surely be successful in WWE if he were to go there, even pointing out their interest in him.

MJF Talks About WWE And Their Interest In Signing Him

Van Vliet asks Friedman about the time he was in MLW and had to choose between joining AEW and WWE.

Friedman responded, saying that his phone call with AEW CEO Tony Khan (in which the pair spoke for two hours about territory wrestling) made AEW the obvious choice for him.

Are we referencing when I was in MLW and it was time to make a choice? [Yes] I wouldn’t say I was close. So the version of pro wrestling that I love, now it does [exist], but it didn’t exist. The only option I had was WWE, until I got older and I heard about Ring of Honor and I heard about PWG and Evolve and so on and so forth.

When I talked to Tony Khan for the first time, we were on the phone together for two hours, two hours with a kid who was 22 turning 23 and all we did was discuss the territories and our love of territory professional wrestling. It was a no-brainer for me.

MJF goes on to say that he thinks he would’ve been successful in WWE had he gone there and that he respects their product.

I know I would have been successful if I went over there. I know I’d be successful if I go over there now, that’s why they’re still interested in me. I respect what they’re doing. I respect their product.
