MJF On Huge WWE Star: “He’s A Piece Of Sh*t”
MJF recently talked about how his opinion about this major WWE Champion has changed over the years
MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) is the current AEW World Champion. Ever since he won the title at AEW: World’s End in December, he hasn’t stopped going on about how great a wrestler and champion he is.
The Salt of the Earth knows a thing or two about talking smack and is also someone who studies wrestling and sports very closely, showing great passion in both.
Friedman likes to showcase a side of his wrestling character in interviews and podcasts. In a recent sit-down on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, he spoke about being “old school” in his approach, how wrestling has changed over the years, and his thoughts on CM Punk.
MJF Takes A Major Jab At CM Punk
When Van Vliet asks him if wrestling now compares to the wrestling he watched growing up, MJF cites current WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk as an example.
Friedman said he loved Punk growing up, but wouldn’t care about him now if he was “dying in front of him” and went on to call him a “piece of sh*t” despite liking his matches.
Listen, I think you’re always going to look at things with rose colored glasses. For example, I loved CM Punk growing up, and now if he was dying in front of me, I’d do nothing but laugh.
He also gives the example of wrestling legend Harley Race, saying people would find it to be slow and plodding nowadays, but he likes it.
So the things that you loved as a child are not going to be things that you love now, I think the style of professional wrestling has changed immensely, but that happens after every decade. At one point in time, they thought Harley Race was like a clown. They were like this guy wrestles like a buffoon. Why is he doing all of these things? This is dumb.
If somebody wrestled like Harley Race today, people would be like, this is tame. What’s going on? Why is this plodding and slow? Whereas I love Harley Race matches.
Don’t get me wrong. I like CM Punk matches too. I just think he’s a piece of sh*t.
MJF finally goes on to say that he’s an old-school traditionalist and is willing to getdown and dirty for wins without being too flashy.
The way the game works has changed. I’m a raging traditionalist. I approach my opponents in a very old school manner to get the W. I’m not looking to be flashy. If something flashy happens, it’s because I see an opening to take my opponent out in a unique way.
But outside of that, I’ll pull your hair, I’ll bite your face, I’ll scratch your eyes, I’ll do whatever I have to do to win. And I think that’s been lost a little bit on my generation.”
