Major Update On AJ Styles’ Status With WWE After Retirement
A new update has given more information on AJ Styles’ status with WWE and why the decision was made for him to retire.
2025 was the year of major retirements in WWE as Goldberg hung up his boots in the summer before John Cena competed in his last match on December 13th. Both of those bouts took place at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and they also both saw Gunther defeat the retiring stars in their final bouts.
But The Ring General wasn’t finished killing careers as 2026 rolled around.
At the 2026 Royal Rumble, AJ Styles put his career on the line as he faced Gunther. The result proved to be the same as with Goldberg and Cena, as Gunther picked up the victory.
AJ Styles To Stay With WWE?
After the match, Styles teased leaving his gloves in the ring, signalling his retirement, but stopped himself before posing to the delight of the crowd. That has only led to more questions about Styles’ future, with many people believing that he’ll wrestle again, but not necessarily in WWE.
Now PWInsider has reported that the chance of Styles remaining with WWE is not off the table. The report noted that AJ Styles chose to retire after he could not come to an agreement with the company before the Royal Rumble took place. Both sides are still in talks, however, meaning Styles could yet stay where he is. If that happens, whether or not he wrestles again remains to be seen.
