Major WWE Star Breaks Character For Jelly Roll Ahead Of SmackDown
A WWE rival of Jelly Roll has praised the singer’s commitment to performing in a WWE ring.
Jelly Roll is a Grammy Award-winning singer who is a lifelong WWE fan who has only had one match in his career – a tag team match at SummerSlam 2025. In that SummerSlam match, Jelly teamed up with Randy Orton in a losing effort against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul.
After being a guest on Miz TV on March 13th, Jelly Roll got into a verbal altercation with Kit Wilson. That led to a confrontation with Kit Wilson and Jelly Roll on the March 20th episode of SmackDown, in which the two men exchanged words in a “Slam Poetry” competition.
That Slam Poetry session didn’t work out well for Jelly, who was attacked by Wilson. It ended with Wilson hitting a corkscrew elbow drop on Jelly. The in-ring incident led to a match being announced between Jelly Roll and Kit Wilson on the March 27th edition of SmackDown.
While speaking to SI’s The Takedown, the heelish Wilson broke character to praise his SmackDown opponent, Jelly Roll.
“A lot of the time in wrestling it’s who has the biggest heart, who has the [most] passion. And… that is one thing Jelly has in spades. This is a man who cares. This is a man who has heart and who has passion.
That’s what’s gotten him to be as successful as he is right now in the entertainment industry.”
Wilson also spoke positively about his match with Roll.
“No matter how good it goes, no matter how crazy it gets, it’s always gonna be entertaining. I can promise you that the match [Friday] is gonna be one of the most entertaining things on the show, as last week’s slam poetry was.”
Wrestling Jelly Roll Is Huge For Kit Wilson’s WWE Career
Over the past few months, Kit Wilson has become a singles wrestler who complains about the “toxic” nature of others on the SmackDown brand. Wilson is on his own because his Pretty Deadly tag team partner, Elton Prince, is out of action due to serious neck surgery.
While discussing the match with Jelly Roll, Wilson mentioned how important it was for him.
“This is the biggest match of my career, and that’s not a knock on any professional wrestler, but that is just to highlight how big of a superstar Jelly Roll is in his own right.
He loves this business and he wants to be a part of this business. So this is big for him, ’cause I’m giving him this time, but this is big for me as well. I won’t deny that.”
Here’s what WWE is currently advertising for SmackDown in Pittsburgh.
- Who will Randy Orton attack next?
- The Bella Twins battle Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair
- Nick Aldis will provide an update on the condition of Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre
- Jelly Roll faces Kit Wilson
- Giulia battles Tiffany Stratton
It’s not yet known if Jelly Roll will be in a WrestleMania match, but it’s certainly a possibility.
