Kenny Omega Wouldn’t Have Hired “8 Out Of 10” AEW Stars

Although he thought he came across in a joking manner, not many are convinced Kenny Omega was being light-hearted with his AEW talent meeting comments.

An AEW talent meeting held ahead of the 24 August Dynamite is said to have left many within the promotion feeling more content following issues being directly addressed by the likes of Tony Khan, The Young Bucks, and Pat Buck. However, Kenny Omega’s comments may have rubbed people the wrong way.

As explained by Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, ‘The Best Bout Machine’ joked that he wouldn’t have personally hired the vast majority of those in the room. Claiming to have been whimsical about the situation, Omega allegedly looked directly at Will Ospreay when making the remark:

“Also surfacing was a story that at the company meeting called several weeks back that the part of the speech by Omega that was described as a pep talk and tough love but that some were irked by a line he said that eight out of ten of the people there he wouldn’t have hired.

Several told us it was something totally misinterpreted and taken out of context but others didn’t like it. He also did say that the overall energy and locker room at the start of the company was more positive, perhaps in trying to recreate that time and place with the current roster.”

Issues between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay have long been established. They collided on AEW Dynamite a week later, with Omega and The Young Bucks eliminated Ospreay and Aussie Open from the World Trios Championships Tournament.
