Kenny Omega Says Kurt Angle Was Dream Match, Angle Responds

Kenny Omega with AEW Championship

Kenny Omega is the current AEW World Champion that recently spoke about how one wrestler he wishes he got to wrestle was the Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle.

Omega has been the AEW World Champion for nearly 300 days after beating Jon Moxley for the coveted title last December. This coming Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Omega will face Bryan Danielson for the first time in an AEW ring. Their only one-on-one match took place in PWG in 2009, which was a year before Danielson went to WWE. While Danielson went on to become one of WWE’s biggest stars in the last decade, Omega had huge success in NJPW and also is one of the founding members of AEW.

During an appearance on Adam’s Apple, Omega commented on a dream match that he wished he could have had with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle:

“I felt like I just missed out on maybe wrestling Kurt Angle, and that would have been a dream match for me. He’s a guy that I consider probably one of the best of all time. Especially for what I try to do in the ring and I try to bring in athletics and real sports. He was a jack of all trades and there won’t be anyone like him ever again, I don’t think.”

After Angle saw Omega’s kind words on Twitter, Angle responded:

Angle is happily retired from pro wrestling after losing his last match to Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. However, on a recent episode of his podcast The Kurt Angle Show (available via AdFreeShows), Angle commented on how much money it would take to get him inside an AEW ring. Angle also joked about how even that amount of money may not be enough because he would also have to deal with his wife! Angle said:

“If they paid me $10 million, I would do one more match. I’ll wrestle Kenny [Omega] for $10 million. I’ll get my ass kicked.”

“Mrs. Angle [would kick my ass], I’m more scared of her than anybody else. I wouldn’t be able to tell her, there’s no way she would let me do it. She would lock all the doors from the outside.”

Omega won’t get that chance to step in the ring with Angle, but in Bryan Danielson, Omega will get to test himself against one of the best in the world this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.
