John Cena Tipped For New WWE Role: “He’s Got The Talent”
John Cena may have retired, but he is missed by the wrestling world.
The former 17-time WWE champion continues to make appearances at conventions to interact with fans. He is simultaneously focused on building a steady career in Hollywood after recently starring in Heads of State.
While speaking at MEGACon Orlando, he revealed that he was still involved with the Stamford promotion in a different role, hoping that things would work out for the best.
During a recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast, veteran commentator Jim Ross briefly discussed John Cena, even pitching the idea of him doing commentary. However, he had his reservations about the former champion finding the role fulfilling.
I’d like to hear John’s commentary. He’s smart. He’s got a way with words, and I’m curious as to how he might do in that role. There’s no doubt in my mind he’s got the talent for it, but I don’t know if he would be content with that or not. But he would do a good job, no doubt about that, in my view. [H/T: WrestlingNews.co]
John Cena Took Three Years To Decide He Wanted To Retire
John Cena competed in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025.
Despite finding himself on the defensive for the majority of the bout against Gunther, he put up some resistance in the closing minutes before tapping out to The Ring General’s chokehold.
While speaking exclusively to Entertainment Tonight’s Danny Directo, the 48-year-old revealed that his decision to retire was not impulsive, but took him three years to arrive at that conclusion.
It’s something I wish I could do forever. I think the reasonable approach is to understand when it’s time to step away, and this was a process that took like 3 years. I had the idea, pitched the idea, 15 months later, we announced the tour, and then a year we had the tour.
So, I did have plenty of time to get into a space that like, okay, my in-ring performance for WWE is over. I’m happy that we did… I thought we did an incredible year of business, and certainly, the audience has talked about it, and I’m very grateful for that.
