John Cena Hits Back At Speculation Around Final WWE Match

John Cena

John Cena isn’t coming back.

When John Cena announced his retirement at Money In The Bank 2024, he followed it up with an important promise. Unlike several famous wrestling retirements from years gone by, when he walks away from the ring, he won’t be coming back.

Unsurprisingly, with Cena’s last match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event less than two months away, speculation around his retirement has kicked into a whole new gear. This has included rumours that he could extend his career, or even compete at WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.

However, according to the man himself on social media, he made a promise, and he’s sticking to it.

Despite any speculation or rumors, on July 6, 2024 I announced I would retire from WWE in-ring participation. I am far from perfect but strive to be a person whose word has value. 12/13/25 will be my final match. I am beyond grateful for every moment WWE has given me. I am excited for 12/13 & look forward to seeing all of you one last time.

John Cena Intercontinental Champion?

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that John Cena could win the Intercontinental Championship before he retires. Following suggestions that Cena is in line for a match with Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series, that new report has claimed that Cena would beat Mysterio to win the gold.

In theory, this would then lead to Cena losing the title to Gunther when he bows out in December.

The Intercontinental Title remains the only major WWE Championship Cena has never won.
