John Cena Confirms WWE Star Has Truly Retired

John Cena retired in December last year after losing to Gunther, and he now claims that this WWE star has also truly retired.

Gunther ended John Cena’s career by doing the unthinkable: making the WWE Legend, whose mantra was Never Give Up, tap out to his sleeper hold.

After facing off with AJ Styles the following night on Raw and subsequently feuding with him, The Ring General retired The Phenomenal One in a match at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, the stipulation being that Styles would have to retire if he lost.

These high-profile wins earned Gunther the nickname The Career Killer.

John Cena recently opened up about his peer and rival, AJ Styles, who spent a decade in the Stamford-based promotion with Cena and worked with him many times.

John Cena Says AJ Styles Has Retired For Good

In an appearance on No-Contest Wrestling, Cena opened up about Styles’ retirement.

Although there have been rumours and easter eggs of Styles’ re-emergence in a different promotion, Cena believes that Styles’ career is truly over.

He says that although he presented Styles with the retirement tour model that he used for himself, Styles was clear that he wanted to go out at the same event he debuted in and didn’t want to wrestle any further, stating that he was now 49 years old.

I always search for a good explanation.

AJ Styles. Debuted at the Rumble. Wanted to retire at the Rumble.

I kinda wanted to push the idea of like ‘Dude you’ve been doing this a long time. There are people who would really like to say goodbye. You may wanna think about this model (Cena’s model of doing a retirement tour).

And he turned to me and said ‘I’m 49.’ and as soon as the words left his mouth, I was like, ‘That’s a good explanation’.

So AJ’s perspective was ‘My debut meant a lot to me. My circle of life where I retire. I leave the same day I came in at the same event. That’s a good explanation. (28:23 onwards)
