Real Reason IYO SKY Was Pulled From WWE SmackDown Match Revealed
IYO SKY was originally scheduled to be in action on this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown, but she was pulled from the bout just hours before the show went live.
Earlier, WWE had announced that Sky would face Giulia in a singles match on the show. However, hours before SmackDown began, WWE announced a replacement, revealing that Rhea Ripley would step in to face Giulia instead.
WWE tweeted, “BREAKING NEWS: @RheaRipley_WWE will replace @IyoSkyWWE and face @giulia0221g on #SmackDown tonight, 8/7c on @SYFY!”
Following the announcement, fans speculated that Sky may have suffered an injury or was dealing with another issue.
WWE Is Saving IYO SKY Vs Giulia For A Later Date
Corey Hayes of BodySlam.net later revealed that WWE replaced Iyo Sky with Rhea Ripley to save the Sky vs. Giulia matchup for another date, given its high-profile nature.
On the show, Ripley and Giulia faced off, but the match ended in a disqualification after Nia Jax and Lash Legend attacked Ripley. Iyo Sky then ran to the ring to assist Ripley, and together they successfully fend off the attackers.
As a result, Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky are now set to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Nia Jax and Lash Legend on the next episode of SmackDown, which will take place at Unipol Arena in Bologna, Italy.
Elsewhere on the show, Trick Williams won the Men’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match by defeating Carmelo Hayes and Damian Priest in a triple-threat match. Kiana James secured a spot in the Women’s Elimination Chamber after defeating Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax.
Additionally, Tama Tonga defeated Ilja Dragunov in singles action, while Oba Femi dominated Kit Wilson in a one-on-one match. Tiffany Stratton picked up a win over Alba Fyre, and Aleister Black defeated Randy Orton in the main event after Drew McIntyre blindsided Orton with the Undisputed WWE Championship.
