First-Ever IWGP Global Champion Crowned At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18

NJPW Naoki Sugabayashi with IWGP Global title

The destiny of the IWGP Global Championship was decided at Wrestle Kingdom 18.

At Wrestle Kingdom 18, Will Ospreay, Jon Moxley, and David Finlay clashed to crown a new IWGP Global Champion. The championship was recently created following the chaos around Ospreay’s United Kingdom Championship — a rechristened version of the IWGP United States Title. During a press conference ahead of Wrestle Kingdom, the new IWGP Global Championship was officially unveiled.

When all was said and done in the ring after a chaotic 22-minute contest it was Finlay who emerged victorious, as the planned “ceasefire” between Ospreay and Moxley failed to get the job done. After the match, Finlay got into a confrontation with Dolph Ziggler who was seated at ringside.
