Is WWE Interested In Working With Other Promotions?

With so much talk still ongoing about forbidden doors, there has been increasing talk about WWE forging further relationships with wrestling promotions around the world.

It surprised many when WWE opened the door for NXT’s Charlie Dempsey to head to All Japan Pro Wrestling to start the year. Whilst that brief excursion has now finished, it has fuelled speculation that there could be more similar crossovers to come in the near future.

A report from Fightful Select has noted that AJPW representatives were seemingly happy with Dempsey’s work during his time with the company, and that WWE felt he was treated well during his time there.

The report also goes on to note that WWE could look to do business differently when it comes to working with other promotions, which has historically been pretty much a closed door for the company. However, the information on other deals seems limited, including the WWE sources Fightful spoke to noting there was no deal in place between WWE and Stardom, one of the long-rumored partnerships.

Deal Between WWE and NJPW “Not Particularly Likely”

Given the strong ties between AEW and NJPW, it’s no surprise that a deal between the Japanese company and WWE is seen as unlikely, even though the latter has seemingly maintained long-term interest in the potential of working something out.

The report discusses how Vince McMahon would quickly nix discussions in the past, and whilst Rocky Romero had discussions with Nick Khan a few years ago, nothing ever came of it.

Although unlikely, there is still some hope of a deal considering both companies have new staff at the helm.
