Hall Of Famer Criticizes Brock Lesnar’s WWE Return – “Doesn’t Make Sense”
The shocking return of Brock Lesnar has one WWE Hall of Famer questioning if it was the right move.
One of the most highly anticipated matches at WrestleMania 42 was the showdown between Oba Femi and the former 10-time WWE World Champion, Brock Lesnar.
In what was a physical, albeit short, match, Femi dominated The Beast and picked up the win with the Fall From Grace (sitout Powerbomb). It was the result most people expected, since Femi is 20 years younger than Lesnar and is a future main-event performer in WWE, so it was a case of Lesnar “giving the rub” to the younger guy.
What shocked many people after the match was Lesnar leaving some of his gear in the ring and walking away, suggesting he had retired as a WWE superstar.
Brock Lesnar’s “retirement” lasted about one month, since he was back on the May 18th edition of WWE Monday Night Raw to attack Femi from behind and drop him with the F5 four times in a row. That will lead to Lesnar facing Femi at Clash in Italy on May 31st.
While there is a lot of anticipation for the Lesnar-Femi rematch at Clash in Italy, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff said on his 83 Weeks podcast that he would have let Lesnar retire instead of bringing him back for more.
“I don’t have a feel for this at all. It’s clunky as hell. I would have let him retire. I think we talked about this last time. It seems like Brock in a kind of state of mind made one decision and found out legally afterwards that he didn’t have that option. That’s kind of what it feels like to me.”
Eric Bischoff Feels Like The Oba Femi-Brock Lesnar Story Ended
Even though Oba Femi only wrestled Brock Lesnar one time so far, Eric Bischoff feels like their story is already done.
“It felt like the story ended for me, watching. The story ended between Oba and Brock. Brock ended, Brock’s story’s over. And then all of a sudden it’s not. You got to help me out with that one. You’ve got to convince me the reason there’s a reason why I’m watching this. What happened? What external force woke Brock up in the middle of the night and said go kick his ass. I got him out, otherwise I can’t buy into it.”
The former WCW President, Bischoff, spoke about the storytelling aspect involved in the Lesnar-Femi rivalry.
“I can’t even think about a way to make it make sense, because it doesn’t make sense to start with. If you want a story to make sense at the end, or even in the middle, it’s got to kind of make sense in the beginning. If you can’t get me in the beginning, there’s no way I’m going to get to the end.”
As he continued, Bischoff suggested that perhaps ESPN, which airs WWE PLEs in the US, may have wanted Lesnar to come back, and that led to WWE bringing him back.
“I guess if this was to satisfy a television partner, you kind of created this anticlimactic ending. Act one of the next story between Oba, or continuing that story, I don’t know, because it felt like the story ended for me.”
