Hall Of Famer Blasts “Insulting” WWE Raw Angle
One WWE Hall of Famer wasn’t a fan of a recent angle on Monday Night Raw.
After weeks and months of speculation, Goldberg finally made his WWE return on the June 16 episode of Raw.
As predicted after their brief skirmish back at Bad Blood in October 2024, Goldberg returned to confront new World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. It’s since been announced that the pair will meet for the gold at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia on July 12.
Although no official confirmation has been given, it’s expected that the bout will serve as Goldberg’s retirement match.
However, not everyone was happy with how the WCW legend’s return and subsequent challenge to Gunther were handled.
On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray blasted the segment, claiming it lacked logic. He explained that despite this, nothing will change until fans make their frustration known.
“I despise lack of logic in wrestling. I get it. It’s wrestling. I get it, it’s sports entertainment. I understand creative liberty… This is not wiggle room.
You know how certain politicians get voted into office, and they consistently do a bad job, but yet, every voting cycle… the people continue to vote this politician back into office? That’s what’s going on here. Until the WWE Universe decides that they hate this and walk away from the product… nothing will change.”
The WWE Hall of Famer went on to say that in storyline, the match doesn’t make sense. He highlighted the fact that Gunther never issued an open challenge before questioning who made the match official and why.
“Did Gunther issue an open challenge? No. Did Gunther say, ‘no matter who it is… you get the next title shot’? No… Who made the match? Why did they make the match? What’s the logic behind them saying yes?… A storyline like this, to me, is insulting because it’s just ramming something down your fan base’s throat and just expecting them to consume it.”
Bully Ray Makes Alternative Goldberg WWE Pitch
Bully Ray then offered an alternative layout for the segment, which would have required few changes, but in his view, made much more storyline sense.
“How about Goldberg comes out? You do the segment exactly as it’s done… Then you go to the back. Nick Aldis walks in says, ‘Mate, I’m sorry… I can’t agree to this.’ And Goldberg says, ‘I want an answer, and I want an answer now. Who can make this match?’… And now all of a sudden, we have a camera follow Goldberg through the arena… right by Triple H,” Bully pitched.
“Triple H looks up, takes off his headphones. Triple H gets up, stands right in Goldberg’s face… Triple H puts out his hand, shakes Goldberg’s hand. There’s the match being made right there. It’s a story… that would have made more sense than just going, ‘Hey, ladies and gentlemen, Goldberg versus Gunther.’”
Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Roman Reigns back at Elimination Chamber in February 2022.
