Who is next on Gunther’s WWE career hit list?

In the last year, The Ring General has earned himself the moniker of “Career Killer” after retiring three WWE legends. His first victim was Goldberg, whom he retired at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July 2025.

Second came John Cena, who tasted retirement at his hands at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, followed by AJ Styles, who had to step down as an in-ring performer following his loss to Gunther at Royal Rumble earlier this year.

According to rumors, Rey Mysterio or Brock Lesnar could be next, but when The Ring General was asked who he wanted to retire next, he picked the 12-time WWE Champion.

Gunther Wants To Retire Sheamus From WWE

Speaking in an interview with the Main Event Club, Gunther stated that he wants to retire Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar down the line, but the first name on his hit list is none other than Sheamus.

He also explained the reason behind his choice, saying that Sheamus was his first big opponent in WWE, and he made his “life hell.” So, retiring him from WWE is a “personal matter” for The Ring General.

“The thing is, Brock is for publicity; he’s perfect. But Sheamus? It’s a personal matter that I want to retire him. On the main roster, Sheamus was my first really, really big opponent, and he made my life hell. He beat me up a lot. So he made me earn it. So I hope I can kick his a** on the way out.”

Currently, Gunther is feuding with Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown. This heated rivalry started on the May 1 edition of SmackDown, when Gunther attacked Rhodes following his singles victory over Ricky Saints.

The two are officially set to wrestle at Clash in Italy on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy, where the Undisputed WWE Championship will be on the line.
