Goldberg Will Face Bobby Lashley At SummerSlam For The WWE Title

Bobby Lashley Goldberg

WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg will meet Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam inside Allegiant Stadium in the city of sin, Las Vegas.

Bobby Lashley and MVP opened Raw by bad-mouthing the former WCW World Champion. MVP commented that Goldberg could beat any man on the roster on any given day, but he didn’t decide to challenge just any man, he challenged the All-Mighty. MVP finished his soliloquy and then asked whether Goldberg wanted to be remembered as a casualty.

It didn’t take long for Goldberg to respond as he marched to the ring before going nose to nose with the WWE Champion. The 54-year-old Goldberg stated that it doesn’t matter how old he is because he’ll always be Goldberg. He then added that he lives by the spear and Bobby Lashley will die by the spear, before telling the champion as only Goldberg can “You’re next!”

As Goldberg left, MVP accosted his son Gage, who was sitting at ringside belittling the boy’s father to his face. This brought the former Universal Champion back down the ramp and delivering a vicious spear to MVP.

Later in the night, Bobby Lashley officially accepted Goldberg’s challenge, saying that he hopes he brings his son so he can watch him get annihilated.

Goldberg stunned the wrestling world when he returned to WWE on July 19th, immediately getting in the face of the WWE Champion on Raw.

It was first reported on July 15th that Goldberg was heading back to WWE for the first time since January when Drew McIntyre thwarted Goldberg’s challenge for the Scotsman’s WWE Title at the Royal Rumble.

It has also been widely reported that Goldberg’s current WWE contract stipulates that he competes in two matches per year, a match against Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam fulfills this obligation for 2021.

Following a legendary run in WCW, Goldberg signed for WWE in March 2003. After an explosive debut the night after WrestleMania 19, the Hall of Famer defeated The Rock at Backlash on what was his in-ring debut. He went on to feud with Triple H, winning the World Heavyweight Championship. However, the former LA Rams defensive tackle was gone from the company less than a year later, following his infamous match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20.

Goldberg returned to WWE in 2016 defeating Lesnar at Survivor Series in stunning fashion. In recent years his appearances have become more sporadic, although he did win the Universal Championship at Super Showdown 2020, before being defeated at WrestleMania 36 by Braun Strowman. The former wouldn’t be seen again until challenging McIntyre.
