Goldberg Wants To “Get My Hands Around John Cena’s Throat”

Is John Cena next for Bill Goldberg? He just might be if Goldberg has his way.

John Cena may be heading towards a potential seventeenth reign as world champion in WWE, but now WWE Title challenger Goldberg has said he’d love to get his hands on Cena.

John Cena returned to WWE in shocking fashion at the 2021 Money In The Bank pay-per-view confronting Roman Reigns after Reigns had successfully retained his WWE Universal Championship against Edge. In the following weeks, Cena and Reigns ramped up a war of words against one another before Cena found himself signing a contract to face The Tribal Chief at SummerSlam.

Another recent returnee to WWE television is the former WCW Champion Goldberg. The WWE Hall Of Famer also returned recently with a SummerSlam match in mind but he has targeted Bobby Lashley and the WWE Championship.

Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of WWE’s The Bump, Goldberg was asked about the Universal Title match at SummerSlam and if he was Team Cena or Team Reigns:

“I’m team neither one of them. Neither one has stared across the ring and seen me as an opponent. So, I look at both of them the same. They’re just victims, they’re just future victims to me. I’m a great fan of both of them for what they’ve done individually.”

“I think maybe even more so I would love to get my hands around Cena’s throat.”

Goldberg and John Cena have never faced off in a match against each other, in fact, the only time the two men may have potentially shared the ring was at the Royal Rumble way back in 2004. Goldberg’s match with Lashley at SummerSlam will mark his tenth match since he returned to wrestling in 2016.

During his appearance, Goldberg also enlightened his fans into how many matches he has left to compete in on his current WWE contract. According to Goldberg, there may well be enough matches left on the slate to be able to tell John Cena “You’re Next!”
