Future of NXT Championship Takes Shape After Oba Femi’s Shocking Announcement
Last week on NXT New Year’s Evil, the black and silver brand kicked off the year with an incredible episode, which saw multiple title matches take place on the show.
The night was main-evented by the Championship match between Oba Femi and Leon Slater, and after an intense match, the Ruler retained the title. However, his actions following the match shocked everyone.
Oba relinquished the title following his win as he moves to the main roster, and NXT General Manager Ava opened tonight’s episode as she addressed how a new champion would be crowned.
New NXT Champion to be crowned next month
Ava was addressing the future of the title as the rest of the roster stood around the ring, when Ricky Saints interrupted her and made his way to the ring.
She announced that on February 3, 2026, a six-man ladder match will take place, and the winner of the match will be crowned the new NXT Champion.

She further stated that the qualifying matches for the ladder match will begin next week. As she left the ring, the entire roster was embroiled in a brawl, which ended with new NXT star Keanu Carver standing tall in the ring.
