“I Probably Shouldn’t Have”- Former WWE Authority Figure On Beating John Cena
A former WWE authority figure recently recalled their victory over John Cena despite the odds being severely stacked against them.
Cena faced John Laurinaitis at the 2012 Over the Limit pay-per-view in a No Disqualification match. The bout also had another stipulation added to it that if Laurinaitis lost, he would be fired.
The match stemmed from an attack on Cena by Lord Tensai and Laurinaitis on Raw, where Laurinaitis announced himself as Cena’s opponent for the WWE pay-per-view.
Expectedly, Cena dominated the bout while using every equipment available at his disposal, including a fire extinguisher, trash can, and even water.
As much as the match was about winning for Cena, it was also about humiliating Laurinaitis before putting him out for good.
In the closing minutes, the bout witnessed an interference from the Big Show, who was already fired. Show grabbed Laurinaitis by the throat and shoved him towards Cena to finish the job.
Just as Cena was about to hit the Attitude Adjustment, Show knocked him out with a straight punch. The then-WWE Head of Talent Relations pinned Cena for the victory.
John Laurinaitis Looks Back On Victory Over John Cena In WWE
John Laurinaitis recently stepped out in the public eye after living in hiding for a couple of years.
Laurinaitis’ name notoriously featured in the Janel Grant lawsuit, accusing him and former WWE boss, Vince McMahon, of sexual assault and trafficking.
He was also recently announced as a headliner for World Classic Professional Big Time Wrestling’s March Mayhem in Chillicothe, Ohio.
While speaking on the Perched on the Top Rope podcast, the 63-year-old recalled his match against John Cena in 2012, which he claimed he should not have won.
You know, I would meet people on, they go, wow, you’re not, as bad as I thought you were, you’re kind of nice actually. Because all the lights all was me coming out and doing the people power and kind of putting people in matches that maybe I shouldn’t, and then also being involved in different things, like different matches with John Cena, that, and beating John Cena, which I probably shouldn’t have.
I don’t think there’s another manager in the world that has beaten John Cena like I have. If you can name one I’d sure like to know. And I’m telling you something, and this is something I mean, if John wants to show up in Chillicothe, Ohio, and get an autograph from the manager that beat him, he does not have to stand in line.
