This former WWE star had a major role to play in cutting a promo meant for Chyna

Women’s wrestling today in WWE and other promotions has come a long way. Women in wrestling were used as valet girls, models, and primarily as a source of attraction in the 90s and early 2000s.

One woman who broke the mold was late WWE legend Chyna. Chyna was a towering figure who was the first woman to hold the men’s Intercontinental Championship. Women’s wrestling gathered steam years later, but was still not at the level it is today, with a stacked roster of women’s wrestlers in active competition weekly, complete with their own titles equal to the men’s division.

Many stars from the mid 2000s paved the way for this, and one such star was Christy Hemme.

Hemme was in TNA from 2006 onwards after leaving the Stamford-based promotion on her own terms.

Former WWE Star Christy Hemme Had To Replace Chyna For a Promo In TNA

In an interview with WrestlingNewsCo, Hemme reveals that she had to cut a promo originally written for Chyna, who by then had also left WWE to work in TNA.

She says it was during Vince Russo’s run in creative, and although she didn’t feel she was the best person to represent that idea at the time, she definitely felt that way.

Um, so I remember that was a Vince Russo creative that was actually not even meant for me. That was meant for um Chyna.

And I don’t remember how it fell through whatever the circumstances were that it did. And he wanted me to pull this off.
I remember thinking at the time, oh yeah, I feel all these ways. I didn’t necessarily feel that I was the person to represent that idea or that concept.

And you know, me as someone that can look back and go, ‘Yeah, I think it should have been represented that way or
not represented that way.’ I don’t think I was prepared to represent that idea or concept, but I definitely felt that way. (14:56 onwards)
