Ex-WWE Star Claims John Cena Legitimately Attacked Him Mid-Match
This former WWE star faced all the wrath of John Cena’s brutal submission hold.
Former WWE star Chris Masters, who was famous for his bodybuilder-like physique and unique submission hold, The Master Lock, had a short but memorable run in the Stamford-based promotion.
He was also one of the youngest stars in the company to get a push in the main roster, but it’s one that didn’t last, as Masters never managed to win any major titles in the company.
He had a history with John Cena during his teenage years when both stars were in the developmental scene. He feuded with Cena in WWE and had a match where Cena used his now-iconic STFU submission move for the first time.
Former WWE Star Chris Masters Talks About John Cena Doing A Shoot Move On Him
Speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight, Masters spoke about how the first time John Cena introduced the WWE Universe to the STFU move was during a match with him.
He revealed that Cena did a shoot STFU, meaning he applied real pressure on Master’s face while applying the hold, but clarified saying that it was not on purpose, but because Cena was known to get caught up in the intensity of matches while wrestling.
Yes, and it was a shoot STFU. I mean, again, I’m not saying that Cena was purposely doing it to shoot on me. I used to think sometimes with Cena, he got so fired up in the moment that he wouldn’t even know his own strength type of thing.
So, yeah, he did it to me for a shoot. You’ll see my face starts turning red, I start trying to get it a little bit looser. I’m pretty sure that I heard later on that he was working with Kurt (Angle), and Kurt had to tell him to loosen it up a little bit.
Masters then went on to share his experience with his own submission hold, which he would sometimes apply with more roughness than necessary.
But my Master Lock could be kind of brutal sometimes with guys, because I didn’t really know how to work it either. So sometimes when I look back at those videos and I look at me putting on Kurt, I’m kind of like, oh man, I was probably rougher with him than I needed to be. Because when you’re that green, you don’t know how to shake spirit as much. You do do stuff a little more real than you have to.
