Cody Rhodes is getting a lot of heat from WWE fans and critics.

The American Nightmare got his rematch against Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title after the Scottish Psychopath tried everything in his power to thwart Rhodes’ attempts to get back in contention for the title, eventually angering SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who announced the match after the Elimination Chamber PLE.

Jacob Fatu interfered in the match and stopped McIntyre from using a steel chair on Rhodes at one point, after which Rhodes capitalized and won the bout, winning back the WWE Championship, a title he had lost to McIntyre in January.

This has not sat well with fans who were very happy to see McIntyre as champion and were expecting him to go into WrestleMania 42 with the title.

They showed their discontent by shrouding the YouTube video of the match in dislikes, making it one of the most disliked videos on WWE’s YouTube channel (180k and counting).

Former WWE Star Rico Calls Cody Rhodes Out

Rico, who worked with WWE in the early Ruthless Aggression Era, said on the Masters of Wrestling podcast that he didn’t understand why Rhodes had to be champion again.

Rico pointed out how Rhodes is trying to win the championship a multitude of times, like Ric Flair or John Cena, calling it a “cheap shot” when he should be helping push other stars and passing the torch.

Well, that’s a cheap shot. Now, not everybody could stay on top, you know. Everybody’s got to come down the ladder.

Cody Rhodes, I respect what you did and are doing for the company. But you know what? You’ve got it. You made it. It’s time to make other wrestlers climb the ladder with you.

Take them. Show them. You’re three generations, two generations of wrestling. You know, bring people up with you. Let you pass the torch as it was done in the old days. passing the torch. You don’t need to win it 19 times, 20 times. Just, you know, you’re good enough.

You be happy with what you got and use that talent to train the undercard guys because they got to come up. And if you don’t do that,

You’re not going to have anybody to carry once you’re done or you decide to retire, or something like that, and the company’s gonna be left in a bind. (4:14 onwards)
