This former WWE star recently shared something about The Great One that may be news to fans.

The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) debuted in WWE in 1996 with a different gimmick, which he later scrapped for the one the world knows today.

The Rock wrestled under the moniker Rocky Maivia, a name that emerged from combining his father’s and grandfather’s names.

Maivia was heavily pushed early on despite his lack of wrestling experience and was portrayed as a simple babyface character.

He debuted on Monday Night Raw as a member of Marc Mero’s entourage in November 1996.

His first match came at Survivor Series Pay-Per-View that same month, and it was an eight-man elimination tag match. Rocky was the sole survivor and eliminated the final two members of the opposing team, Crush and Goldust.

Despite this early push, fans booed him heavily, and Johnson later scrapped this gimmick for one that struck a major chord with fans of the product at the time and began calling himself ‘The Rock’.

Marc Mero, who recently appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, spoke about the time he worked with the rock and shared a personal secret.

Mero reveals that when The Rock was part of his entourage, they would get together backstage and pray before matches.

Mero, who also talks in the interview about finding his faith in God and turning his life around, hopes that The Rock still has his strong faith the way he did back then.

Yes, I was the captain of the team. The plan was, obviously, Rock was going to win the match and stuff. But it was great.

Rock is such an amazing guy. I mean, we got along so well. He’s brand new in the company, and I was there for just a little while longer before he was there.

But a lot of people might know this about him, though, but he used to come and grab me and we pray together before a match, which I always remembered was a really cool thing.

His faith was really strong, and I hope it continues to be strong. I hope it is. I haven’t talked to him in a long time, but I know he’s obviously doing amazing.
