Ex-AEW Star Addresses Powerhouse Hobbs’ Potential In WWE
It was recently confirmed that Powerhouse Hobbs had officially signed with WWE.
Hobbs, real name William Hobson, had been with AEW since 2020, where he won the TNT Championship and World Trios Championship once.
Hobbs was a part of The Opps faction, alongside Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata. Known for his ‘powerhouse’ style wrestling, the 35-year-old is surprisingly agile and has a variety of moves in his arsenal, including a frog splash and a torture rack.
While Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful confirmed his signing with the Stamford promotion, there was no official word on when he would debut his character.
His lack of push as a singles wrestler may have been one of the reasons behind his departure, although he has not officially confirmed it yet.
Hobbs was also pinned during his final match on the January 14 episode of AEW Collision, due to which The Opps not only lost the match, but also their Trios Championship to ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight.
Matt Hardy Speaks About Hobbs’ AEW Run And Potential In WWE
Like Powerhouse Hobbs, Matt Hardy is a former All Elite Wrestling superstar, currently signed to TNA.
Speaking on his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the 51-year-old said that Hobbs has the characteristics that get him over organically, and he has a great attitude that could benefit WWE.
I feel like he has a ton of potential in WWE. I feel like there were a couple moments in AEW where he kind of organically started getting over and they never really pulled the trigger on him. That has happened quite a few times with quite a few guys in AEW in the past.
I think he’s got a great look, he has an awesome attitude. He is down for whatever. He’s very much a company guy wherever he’s at. I got lots of love for that dude, I think he’s great. I enjoyed getting to know him, I enjoyed getting to be friends with him. I think he has a ton of upside when it is his opportunity to shine in WWE. [H/T: Fightful]
