Drew McIntyre would like to see WWE separate their two major championships again.

The current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion is Roman Reigns, who has held the Universal Title for nearly 900 days while also holding the WWE Championship since WrestleMania 38 for about 300 days now.

At the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event, Roman will defend those two titles against Sami Zayn in Sami’s hometown of Montreal. Whoever holds those two titles after that match will defend them against Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39 on April 1st or 2nd.

You can count Drew McIntyre among those in WWE that would like to see the WWE and Universal Titles separated again.

During Reigns’ incredible run as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Drew has only had one shot at the titles – at Clash at the Castle last September in Cardiff, Wales in front of 50,000+ people. Drew had Reigns down after a Claymore Kick, but Solo Sikoa was there to stop the referee’s count and Reigns came back to win shortly after that.

While speaking to Pro Wrestling Illustrated recently, Drew McIntyre talked about wanting to become the WWE Champion again in front of the fans.

“I wanna get a title in front of live fans. I had it for 300 days with nobody there. Obviously, Clash [at the Castle] would have been an awesome moment if I was able to pull it off. Roman’s on this run of a lifetime right now. Curious to see where that goes.”

As he continued, Drew spoke about how he would like to see the WWE and Universal Titles separated again so they can be back on live events as well.

“Ideally, we’ll get those titles separated back on their respective shows and back on the live events and all over. But can’t deny what Roman’s done with them and how he’s representing [WWE] as champion.”

Drew McIntyre mentioned above that during his two reigns as the WWE Champion, Drew held the championship for 300 days. However, he never got to hold the WWE Championship in front of the fans since he won it at WrestleMania 36 in an empty WWE Performance Center and his second title win was at the Thunderdome with no fans in attendance.

Regarding this year’s WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre is rumored to be part of a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship held by GUNTHER in a match that would also include Drew’s best friend Sheamus.
