Is Drew McIntyre turning babyface?

This was the question a WWE Hall of Famer found themselves asking after McIntyre’s promo on last week’s SmackDown.

Bully Ray’s confusion stemmed from Raw last week, where CM Punk and Roman Reigns had a fierce showdown, during which they buried The Scottish Warrior by belittling him.

Then, on SmackDown, the Scot was attacked twice—by Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu—before he could properly cut a promo.

During his segment, Drew McIntyre claimed that he was disappointed by what he saw on Raw, calling both Punk and Reigns insecure.

He also called Punk, with whom he shares real-life animosity, ‘Fragile Phil,’ referring to him by his real name.

The 40-year-old then addressed the SmackDown roster, where he told them to see Punk and Reigns’ words as a declaration of war.

Bully Ray Criticizes Drew McIntyre’s Promo

Speaking on the Busted Open Radio podcast, Bully Ray claimed that he did not understand why CM Punk and Roman Reigns would belittle Drew McIntyre.

He also said that in Drew’s promo, he came out looking like a babyface.

This didn’t make sense. I don’t know why you’re burying the other guy who’s your champion and the other brand. Now maybe, hopefully, they’ll come full circle and give us a reason. But in all my time, all I can say right now is to quote the great Jeff Spicoli, I don’t know.

I’m sorry to repeat myself a little bit. I don’t know why you go out of your way to bury Drew, the championship, and SmackDown. I don’t know why you put a promo in the guy’s mouth that I liked, meanwhile, he just eliminated the biggest babyface in the company out of the Royal Rumble when he wasn’t even in the match. It’s like a toxic girlfriend.

While calling out Drew McIntyre’s SmackDown promo, Bully Ray could not understand why he would “declare war,” considering the segment did not build up to a multi-wrestler match.

The only way it would have made sense to me in this point in time is if we were going into Survivor Series. A declaration of war. ‘Don’t you dare speak about my brand and my roster the way you have. We’ll show you. We’re declaring war on you.’ Okay, we’re going to get a Raw versus SmackDown, traditional Survivor Series match. I get it.

McIntyre will face the winner of the Elimination Chamber match at WrestleMania 42.
