A former World Heavyweight Champion once pitched Donald Trump’s WWE return, but Vince McMahon warned him to stay away.

Donald Trump has brushed up against the wrestling business for decades. Trump Plaza is where WWE maintain that WrestleMania 4 and 5 took place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the late eighties. Donald Trump had a more prominent role at WrestleMania 23 when he was in Bobby Lashley’s corner for the ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ match that ultimately saw Vince McMahon get his head shaved.

Trump was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 before he embarked on the political aspirations that have taken him to the White House twice.

And it seems one WWE star wanted to take advantage of Trump’s rise to power.

Donald Trump Pitched For WWE Return

Speaking on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, former World Heavyweight Champion Jake Hager – known in WWE as Jack Swagger – explained that he wanted Trump back in WWE when his character took on a more political edge, but Vince McMahon said no:

I pitched an idea once – this was in 2015 and the presidential campaign was going on – that Dutch (Mantell) and I were going to do everything Donald Trump did and come out on stage and be very presidential.

I said to him, ‘What if you could tell your friend that you’re the reason why you put him in the White House?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, stay away.’

Jake Hager infamously labelled billionaire’s son Tony Khan “a communist” in a bizarre rant after he left AEW.
