Don Callis Explains His Motivations For Creating The Family

Don Callis

Don Callis has no regrets following his betrayal of Kenny Omega.

The long and successful partnership came to an end in May when Callis attacked his long-time ally inside a steel cage on AEW Dynamite. Since then, Callis believes that Omega is now past his prime and has looked to the future.

While appearing on Busted Open Radio, The Invisible Hand revealed that he was looking for multiple wrestlers with top-tier skills and believes that Omega’s previous successes are down to him:

“When I put this family together, I tried to have superior athletes and people who had something special. What they all have in common is what I call ‘explosion’ –- it’s zero to 60 very quickly,” he said. “Things are just starting and things are starting to play out in the NFL … people used to say, ‘Oh was it Bill Belichick or was it Tom Brady’ – with me and Kenny Omega, it was the reverse, it looks like it was me all along. It feels so good to unburden myself … Kenny Omega was a barnacle, a wood tick sucking all the life out of me. Now, I have athletes who are focused and that’s really been a blessing for me.”

While the views of Callis are unpopular, he does have a point as Omega has only won one singles match since the betrayal, which was a victory over Wheeler Yuta back in July.

Who Is In The Don Callis Family?

With Omega no longer aligned with his former mentor, Don Callis has chosen his replacements wisely. Not only has Callis recruited rising stars Konosuke Takeshita, Powerhouse Hobbs and Sammy Guevara, but has also enlisted the services of the man who beat Omega for the IWGP United States Championship, Kenny Omega.
