Danhausen’s WWE Debut Panned: “It Was The Gobbledy Gooker”

Gobbledy Gooker Danhausen

Danhausen’s WWE debut has been compared to that of the infamous Gobbledy Gooker.

The 1990 Survivor Series will best be remembered for the arrival of The Undertaker into WWE. But that night also saw another character make their debut, but their career did not go on to become legendary.

On the night when The Deadman was born, the Gobbledy Gooker was also hatched from an egg live on pay-per-view. Why Vince McMahon decided anyone wanted to see Hector Guerrero in a turkey suit was anyone’s guess, but now a more recent arrival into WWE has been compared to this infamous incident.

At Elimination Chamber, the mysterious crate was opened and inside was a coffin. When it opened, a parade of face-painted females emerged before Danhausen officially arrived. The former AEW star gave Michael Cole a jar of teeth and then posed in the ring as a small puff of smoke went off. The Chicago fans booed.

Is Danhausen The New Gobbledy Gooker?

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was the one who made the obvious comparison of Danhausen’s unfortunate unveiling:

It was the Gobbledy Gooker, that’s what it was. They finally managed to do another Gobbledy Gooker.

We’ll see, it’s a weird one because with Paul Levesque and the way he books, I don’t see where the guy fits in. He could do the R-Truth thing, but they have R-Truth. They don’t need two R-Truths. I know he’s not the same thing, but it’s just sort of that gimmick mascot guy that doesn’t wrestle.

There’s no upside for him to do wrestling matches. Him doing his shtick? It might get over, I mean, it’s WWE. On paper, I would’ve thought it would for a while and then it would become commonplace, and then it wouldn’t mean much.
