AEW’s Nigel McGuinness Will Never Wrestle Full-Time Again

Nigel McGuinness’s wrestling career spans 20+ years, having started wrestling in the independent circuit in 1999.

In 2005, he became the ROH Pure Champion, holding the title for a record 305 days before losing to Bryan Danielson.

Danielson and McGuinness would compete in a match years later on a September 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite in New York. Their fight, which ended in a victory for Danielson, earned well-deserved plaudits from fans and critics.

Speaking during an interview on The Magic of Wrestling podcast, McGuinness was asked if he planned on returning to wrestling full-time.

The British wrestler claimed that he had no such plans as he saw no benefit in them.

No. Good Lord, no. No. My full years of wrestling are long, long gone. Good Lord, you could have asked me probably 10 years ago and I would have said the ship has truly sailed when it comes to me even wrestling again. But, I guess, truthfully, without AEW and specifically Tony Khan, I never would have got this opportunity again so, I don’t think there’s any benefit to me wrestling a full-time schedule.

The sort of part-time schedule that I’m currently on, you know, if an opportunity presents itself and it makes sense from a storyline perspective then I’ll do it, I love doing it. But, yeah, not full-time.
