Cody Rhodes was supposed to battle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, but that plan was scrapped.

WWE decided to pass the Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre after it was noted that Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 42 could lead to fan fatigue over the same main event for the third time in four years.

So, Rhodes was dethroned, and McIntyre was made the champion to kickstart new storylines.

Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble men’s match and picked CM Punk as his choice of champion to challenge at WrestleMania 42, which leaves Drew McIntyre wide open.

As per Wrestling Observer, The American Nightmare is set to main event Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 against Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Champion. In fact, the global juggernaut can possibly add Jacob Fatu to the mix to make it a Triple Threat Match.

Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship is currently planned to main event Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 this year.

The match could see Jacob Fatu being added to make it a triple-threat.

On the latest episode of WWE SmackDown, both Rhodes and Jacob Fatu attacked Drew McIntyre, following which the Stamford-based promotion announced Rhodes vs. Fatu vs. Sami Zayn for a Triple Threat Elimination Chamber qualifier match.
