Cody Rhodes Wants To Turn Heel? The WWE Star Reveals
Since returning to WWE in 2022, Cody Rhodes has maintained a babyface persona.
Nearing four years into his character, The American Nightmare revealed the challenges of being a top babyface in the company. He also highlighted the ease that comes with being a heel as opposed to being the ‘good guy.’
For several months, fans have banded together to see a significant character shift for Cody, hoping that he embraces the dark side.
Several reports even claimed that The Rock continuously pitched for Rhodes’ turn, but WWE never budged from its original plan.
On a recent episode of his What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, the 40-year-old revealed whether or not he would like to become a heel.
I feel right now I like the challenge of being a babyface because it seems almost impossible some nights. It’s easier to be cooler. I really admire Logan Paul’s situation. He could fall flat on his face and it’s no big deal. He can be mad at the crowd.
I think sometimes there are elements of being a heel that are a lot of fun, whereas being a white-meat babyface—where you’re trying to be virtuous and make the right choices—that’s not always the most appealing thing by modern entertainment standards. But when you look at our ticket-buying audience—kids and families—there’s room for it.
Cody Rhodes Open To Becoming WWE Heel
Despite numerous speculations over time, Cody Rhodes has been staunchly presented as a babyface since his return debut at WrestleMania 38.
WWE has often cited a potential dip in merch sales as the reason behind not turning his character.
However, Rhodes stated that he was not opposed to portraying a villainous character.
I think if we ever transition and the heel comes back out, that might be something I need in my life and don’t realize it. Just from the sheer, ‘Let’s go out there and have fun.’
I feel there’s a lot of pressure in the babyface spot. But as a heel, it’s more like, ‘Let’s just go have some fun.’ We’ll get it when we get it. You can dictate the pace. [H/T: Ringside News]
