The current WWE Champion named a megastar as his dream opponent. The star is discussion is none other than CM Punk.

Ever since his return to the WWE in 2022, Cody Rhodes has been the quarterback of the promotion. The American Nightmare has faced some top stars and legends such as Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, John Cena, and The Rock during his current run as the top babyface. However, fans have been anticipating the marquee match between Cody Rhodes and CM Punk for the past few years.

While Punk and Rhodes have shared the ring a number of times in the Stamford-based promotion years ago, the two have yet to lock horns in a high-stakes encounter. Both shared the AEW locker room in 2021-22, but the match didn’t take place there. The showdown between The American Nightmare and the Second City Saint has been teased since 2024, and the two have confronted each other in recent weeks as well. Meanwhile, Cody is also looking forward to feuding with the Best in the World.

Cody Rhodes declared CM Punk as his dream opponent in the WWE

During his recent interview with ESPN, Cody Rhodes admitted that a dream match that he would like to have will be against CM Punk:

All-time dream match – I think fans think might happen but I think is very hard to put together – I will use myself in this example, but a dream match that I’d like to be part of is probably myself vs CM Punk.”

However, Cody further added that he is uncertain about facing Punk, as neither of them knows if they want that to happen:

The likelihood of it happening, who knows? Wrestling has gotten more… it’s difficult. We’re collaborators these days, so it’s difficult. I don’t know if he’d want that, and I don’t even know if I’d want it.”

Rhodes concluded by saying that the match between him and Punk would be very good for wrestling:

But I know it would just be really great and be very good for wrestling.”

Cody and Punk showed respect to each other before their respective WrestleMania 42 main events a few weeks back on SmackDown. The two shared the stage yet again on the RAW after Mania, where Rhodes seemingly teased a title match against Punk as well.
